Another Country. Contemporary Craft Furniture.

Contemporary Craft Furniture

Another Country is an award-winning British furniture company, designing and making contemporary furniture and home accessories using sustainable timbers, materials and processes. Their designs are inspired by archetype, calling on the familiar and unpretentious forms of British Country kitchen style, including Shaker, alongside traditional Scandinavian and Japanese woodwork.

We have been a trusted partner of the team at Another Country for over 10 years — and designed their brand identity for the launch of the business in 2010. The shared ambition and strategy for the brand was built around the idea of ‘Contemporary Craft Furniture’ — with a ‘carved’ logo representing time-honoured craft techniques, and the wordmark as an expression of something hardier, archetypal and more modern.

Another Country’s utilitarian typography is analogue and immediate — the custom wordmark acting as an expression of the archetypal; furniture that's made to last, hard-wearing and contemporary.

We created a bespoke ‘carved’ monogram; a crisp, hand-tooled ‘ac’ ligature that illustrates the time-honoured craft techniques that inspire Another Country’s design language, and reflects the spirit and functionality of their honest forms of furniture designed for a modern customer — where craft meets contemporary.

As a nod, and in deference, to the deliberately familiar and unpretentious forms of Another Country’s furniture, we created a practical, numerical approach to the naming conventions for each collection or ‘Series’ — an honest verbal identity to accompany the brand's visual vocabulary.

The ‘EDITION Series’ was introduced to facilitate collaborations, and the commissioning of small batch, hand-produced objects for everyday use. The first in this series was a Santoku chef’s knife, designed in partnership with Peckham-based Blenheim Forge — featuring our ‘EDITION Series’ logo carved into the walnut handle.
